Dive Courses

The Byron Bay Dive Centre is the only diving facility in Byron Bay that issues PADI, SSI and NAUI diving certifications.
All confined water training is conducted at the dive shop, an instructor training facility, located in the heart of Byron Bay. Here we have a fully equipped classroom and a training pool heated to 25 degrees Celsius.
All open water-training dives are boat dives conducted at Julian Rocks Marine Reserve. Here you will swim with tropical species such as turtles and manta rays, as well as many interesting southern ocean animals including friendly blue gropers and wobbegongs. All this only a five-minute boat ride from Byron Bay.
Qualified scuba diving instructors supervise all course dives.

Introductory Dive Course

This course takes approximately 5 hours to complete. The course includes equipment hire, one swimming pool lesson and one dive at the Julian Rocks Marine Reserve with an instructor. Intro Diver Courses start 7am, 9am and 11am every day.
If you have always wanted to try scuba diving this is the course for you, no experience is neccessary.
Scuba Diver

The Scuba Diver certificate starts every day and only takes 2 days to complete. The course includes equipment hire, tuition, swimming pool lessons, and two scuba dives at Julian Rocks Marine Reserve.
This course certifies you to dive with a divemaster anywhere in the world. Also you can upgrade this certificate to Open Water level anywhere in the world by completing the difference (ie. 2 swimming pool lessons, 2 dives and theory). Scuba Diver courses start 8am every Monday and Thursday.
Open Water Diver

The Open Water course takes four days to complete. The course includes equipment hire, tuition, swimming pool lessons, 4 scuba dives and a snorkelling lesson at Julian Rocks Marine Reserve.
Once certified you will be able to dive independent of an instructor, at any dive shop anywhere in the world. Open Water courses start 8am every Monday and Thursday.
A recreational diving medical is required by Australian law and must be completed prior to the first day of the course. The medical will be part of your first days of the course unless you have done it prior at one of the authorised diving doctors in Australia.
NEW! – Referral Open Water Course – NEW!

Why not complete all your theory and confined water sessions (classroom and swimming pool) while in Byron Bay. You can then choose an exotic location anywhere in the world to complete your four open water dives (within the next twelve months).
The Referral Open Water Course takes advantage of the Byron Bay Dive Centre’s purpose built scuba education facility which combines a multimedia classroom with a dive training pool heated to a minimum of 26 degrees Celsius. Let our instructors give you the best preparation for your diving adventure so you will feel safe no matter what country you choose to complete your Open Water certification.
Refresher Course

If you love diving but it has been a while since your last dive you will need to complete a scuba refresher course. This course will re-introduce you to important scuba skillls and procedures.
The scuba Refresher starts every day and takes approximately 5 hours to complete. The price includes equipment hire, one swimming pool lesson and one dive at the Julian Rocks Marine Reserve with an instructor.
Advanced Open Water Course
Take your diving qualifications a step further by completing the Advanced Open Water course.
The advanced course takes 3 days to complete and includes specialty dives such as Boat diving, Underwater naturalist, Navigation diving, Drift diving and Deep diving.
Rescue Diver Course

Increase your skills and confidence with the Rescue Diver course.
The Rescue course takes three days to complete. This course includes classroom sessions, 2 pool sessions and 4 boat dives.
The rescue course is divided into two components. The first deals with recognising and avoiding stress whilst engaged in diving activities and hence avoiding rescue situations. The second component deals with rescue management and the initiation of rescues.
Divemaster

The Divemaster course is both fun and challenging, instilling you with the necessary skills to perform as a confident dive leader.
This program takes eight days plus we have traineeships available for the right candidates.
Open Water Instructor

The Open Water Instructor course takes you the next step from Divemaster level. This course will provide you with the necessary skills to be an effective dive educator.
