Vegetarian & Special Food Options on Maui… Kihei/Wailea Side

What’s a girl like me supposed to eat in a Place like this?

Whenever I am traveling, I have a hard time finding restaurants that have options that I can eat, so I thought I’d give you a little insight on some great food options for while you are visiting here on Maui…

I am a Vegetarian for the most part… I eat Fish and Shelfish and try to go “Gluten Free” as much as possible and avoid cheese when I can.  Basically, I don’t eat red meat, pork, chicken or turkey.  Here are some great options for you wether you are strict Vegan, like me or somewhere in the middle!

Vegan/Vegetarian

KO at the Fairmont Kea Lani
www.korestaurant.com

Great Macrobiotic, Vegan, Gluten-Free and generally amazing food. Not to mention the KILLER Sunset views and ambiance.  BEST California Roll I have ever had in my LIFE!

Nalu’s – New kid on the Block and we LOVE them!
www.nalusmaui.com

They are the new kid on the block and are really doing an amazing job!

While they do serve a variety of foods including beef, the vegan and vegetarian options are amazing.  Check them out… Fresh Cucumber/Mint Water and Pineapple/Lemon Infused Water are staples here… So drink as much as you like!  For you crazy Hippies out there that dig Kombucha, they have fresh “on tap” locally brewed and quite a variety!  And for you folks that are “REALLY” on vacation…

This delicious Breakfast spot,  of course has an amazing Bloody Mary to match… Wowza!  Stay hydrated my friends…

I love the Cracked egg salad… it is No Ko Oi (the Best!). Also, I haven’t had it yet, but the beet salad comes highly recommended!  We love the ambiance here, join us… the place will be filled with “Locals” thats when you really know you’re in the right place!

D’Lite – Healthy on The Go (Has a drive-thru… How cool is that?)
www.dlishdrivethru.com

It IS Healthy and I am here almost every day to get their awesome invention… “The Breakfast Buzz”  offered as Vegan as well, it is a protein shake, with banana, peanut butter and… you guessed it… Espresso! Yum.

I’m also a big fan of the Mushroom Soup… if you have ever tasted Moosewood Restaurants Mushroom Soup, you will love this!  They serve it with rice and veggies in the “D’Veggie Bowl” too if you need a little more substance …  Should be called Delish! Not D’Lite… ; )

Maui Brick Oven – !00% Gluten FREE and Easy!
www.mauibrickoven.com

Although I have never eaten here… I am planning on it!  I mention this as it has been highly recommended by many of my friends…  Check it out… ; )

Cafe O’Lei – Everything at this restaurant is excellent. Period.
www.cafeoleirestaurants.com
We like to go at lunch because of the “Plate Lunch Specials” that are anywhere from $8.95 to $11.95 ish.  Fresh Fish every day… and another non-fish special as well usually.  Admittedly, I usually don’t go for the special as much anymore because I am now fixated on the absolutely amazing Quinoa Salad… Eggplant/Zucchini and goat cheese over greens with Quinoa… OH MY!

OR Try this… They also have a raw bar Thursday through Sunday that includes Fresh Oysters, Shrimp, Sushi, Crab, Lobster and More!  The Oysters are super fresh and  plentiful.  You’ll need a reservation or there will be a wait to get in for sure…

Miso Phat Sushi – New Kid on the Block…
www.misophatsushi.com

Small, cute, cozy…. Phenomenal Sushi! Yum!  The service is great and the Sushi is amazing…  The serve my favorite sushi ever here… Spicy Scallop Sushi… but as a roll!  Doesn’t get any better than that…

This is their second location opening up within 2 years (the other is in Lahaina) and they are definitely doing something right… Absolutely a must do!

Sansei Sushi – Old kid on the Block…
www.sanseisushi.com

Still awesome after all these years…  There is also a location in Lahaina if you are on the West Side of the Island.
They have Sushi Happy Hours… and who isn’t happy when indulging in awesome Sushi…Early Bird Happy Hour – 1/2 Price Sushi!

Sunday/Monday from 5:00pm – 6:00pm  Arrive EARLY… There WILL be a line!  Some people even bring lawn chairs…  Here is a secret though … sit at the bar if it is available.  Not the Sushi Bar… The “Bar” Bar… they will treat you well and you’ll get your drinks super fast too…! There are usually seats available there… ; )

Late Night Happy Hour – 1/2 Price Sushi!

Thursday thru Saturday 10:00pm -1:00pm
Again… good time to try to sit at the bar if you can’t get a table… (We like sitting there because your bartender IS your waiter and vise versa… always a good thing).  Try the Spicy Scallop Sushi… as you know it is my Fav,  Shrimp Dynamite is amazing and Panko Crusted Tuna Roll is their signature roll of delicious-ness.

5 Palms at the Mana Kai – 1/2 Price Sushi and Pupus
www.5palmsrestaurant.com

Still my all around Favorite… So I have to mention it.

Best part is the location.  It is the only restaurant right on the Ocean(with incredible views-especially at Sunset)  I have been going to this restaurant since I was 14 years old so it also holds a warm place in my heart.

Happy Hour is from 3:00pm to 7:00pm in the Bar area.  50% off Sushi and Pupus!

All of the Pupu’s (appetizers) are good but the sushi is what we go for…. they are busy they will expand to the rear of the restaurant which is still pretty good… 😉  Sunset here is awesome… Say a big Aloha to our Friends Simon, Moki and Bailey(at the bar)… Tell them we sent you!

These restaurants are my “current” favorites(some new, some old)… I will definitely keep you in the loop in anything new comes up that is a MUST DO or TRY!

I’m sure we’ll see you out there somewhere!

As always Warmest Love, Aloha and Health to you…

Peg
